The tram service from Halifax reached Mytholmroyd in 1901 and was extended to Hebden Bridge the following year.
Plans to extend the service on to Todmorden were abandoned, and the town never had trams.
On 1st January 1907 Todmorden Corporation became only the second borough in the country to operate a motor bus service when they opened the Todmorden to Walsden service.
On 29th January 1908, a 4 hours' sitting of Todmorden Town Council discussed a proposal to abandon the motor bus service. The matter was adjourned for 6 months
