The following documents mention Samuel Broodley and members of his family



His will:

  1. In the name of God Amen the xviijth day of Jenuary in the yeare
  2. of our lord God 1614 I Samuell Broodley of Mylnebank in Sowreby in the parish of Hallifax and
  3. dioces of Yorke sicke of bodye but of sounde and perfect remembrance in mynde praysed
  4. be God therefore doe the day and yeare aforesayd ordayine appoint and make this my last will
  5. and testament in manner and forme followinge : viz: first and principally I comend my soule into
  6. the handes of Allmighty God my creator trustinge onely to be saved in and by the merits of Jesus
  7. Christ my alone savioure and redeemer and my body to the earth when yt shall please God to call
  8. me forth of this life and concerning the giveing and disposeing of such worldly goods wherewith
  9. god hath blessed me : I do by this my last will and testament give and dispose the same in manner
  10. and forme followinge : first I will that all my due and lawfull debtes and my funerall expences
  11. to be paid first of my whole good by my executor hereafter named item I give and bequeth
  12. unto John Hill sonne of Thomas Hill xls Item I give unto Samuell Hill sonne of Thomas
  13. Hill aforesayd xls item I give unto Easter Eastwood xxs item I give unto Samuell
  14. Bates sonne of Tobyas Bates xxs item I will that George Lune have two of my best knie
  15. and one meare with all furniture to her belonginge sadles, bridles, garthes [girths], wantoes etc and one
  16. presse standinge in the shoppe payinge for the same v li of currant English money : Item I give unto
  17. George Lanne my brother in lawe my best jerkin and my best breches : Item the residue of all my
  18. goodes chattels and debtes not before given or bequeatheds yt is my will and mynd and I doe give the same
  19. clearely my debts payed funeral expences discharged : and these legacies above mentioned payed
  20. unto James Broodley my brother and Mary Broodley nowe wife of Thomas Hill my sister equally
  21. to be devided betwixt them : Item I do appoint ordaine and make Thomas Hill my brother in lawe
  22. sole executor of this my last will and testament : Item I doe heareby revoke and disannul all
  23. former wills and testaments by me at any tyme before this present made either by word or writting
  24. In witness heare of I the aforesayde testator have heare unto sett my marke and seale the day
  25. and yeare above written in the presence of these whose names are subscribed Samuel Tattersall, George Lune, Richard Bentley

The name of George Lumme, is spelled in a variety of ways.

In the Archives, the will is indexed as Bradley, but the name is clearly written as Broodley in all instances
