Halifax, complaining of desertion by Horatio of 74 Stone

The bag had been lost by Mrs Elsie Moore of 2 Lower Well Gate,
Greetland.
Despite making enquiries Mrs Moore was unable to find her
handbag and placed an advertisement in the Halifax Courier &
Guardian.
In response to this advertisement, May Burrows reported
to Mrs Moore that she had found the handbag.
On 14th August 1942, Acting-Sgt Walker interviewed Mrs
Ireland, and, after initially denying any knowledge of the bag,
she later produced the bag and admitted to having spent all but
£8 of the money and having burnt the clothing coupons and the
identity card
Horatio died 30th October 1948 (aged 55).
Annie & Horatio were buried at All Saints' Church, Dudwell
with Horatio's mother Hannah Jane Burrows [1861-11th
January 1937].

The Morning Herald of London [Tuesday 4th November 1856]
reported
Shortly after six o'clock on Thursday night [30th January 1856], as
he reached the junction of Illingworth Road and Bradshaw Lane, he was
attacked and robbed on the highway, near Bradshaw, by three men,
having their faces blackened.
One of them knocked him backward over his horse, causing him to fall
head first onto the road, the other two held him by the arms and
attempted to strangle him with his scarf; the other rifled his
pockets, finding only a few shillings, some keys and a knife.
Disappointed at finding their booty so small, they kicked him in his
side.
Bleeding from his mouth, nose and ears, he called out for assistance.
His assailants heard the sound of footsteps approaching and ran off.
Mr Burrows endeavoured to remount his horse, but the saddle
girths had been cut and he fell to the ground.
He is very badly injured, but it is hoped, not fatally
Elizabeth died 12th March 1854 (aged 30).
Norcross died 27th January 1859 (aged 35)

15/- a week, and 6s 6d costs, which the woman had decided to accept
along with custody of the child Audrey (one year and 5 months
old).
On 11th August 1942, May found a handbag in the bus waiting
room at the bottom of Salterhebble Hill, and handed it to a bus
conductress, Doris Eileen Ireland of Aked's road, halifax
The bag contained £25 in bank notes, clothing coupons and an
identity card.
