They lived in Greetland.
During World War II,
he served as an Engine Room Artificer 4th Class
with the Royal Navy
aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Glorious.
He died 8th June 1940 (aged 25)
when his ship was hit by the German battleship Scharnhorst,
and sank in the Norwegian Sea with the loss of 1,207 of her crew of
1,247.
He is remembered on the Plymouth Naval Memorial [Grave Ref 40 1],
on the Memorial at Clay House, Greetland,
and on the Memorial at Elland Boys' Brigade
