On 7th April 1906, there was a fatal accident near the Derby Inn, Rishworth.
A horse pulling a trap down the hill past the Derby Inn, Rishworth was frightened when some sheep ran across the road.
The horse backed into a wall which collapsed, pitching the carriage, the horse and 4 passengers 90 ft into the Derby Delph quarry below.
Three of the passengers
- were killed instantly, and the fourth man
was badly injured.
