They lived at 110 Lee Mount Road, Halifax.

During World War II, he enlisted on his wedding day [November 1939] and served as a Private with the 2nd/7th Battalion Duke of Wellington's (West Riding Regiment).

He died 11th June 1940 (aged 20).

He was buried at Ste. Marie Cemetery, Le Havre, France [Grave Ref 67 T 15].

He is remembered in the Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance

On 24th December 1866, he married Jemima Townsend [1841-1918].


Jemima came from Shelf.

Her father was not named on the marriage records

 

On 30th May 1870, William was killed in an accident at Bentley & Shepherd's stone mine, Hipperholme.

After his death, the widowed Jemima lived at Witchfield, Shelf.

She died in Dewsbury in 1918 (aged 77)

Around 1913, he emigrated to Canada.

He worked at the Toronto Steel Plate Works.

During World War I, he enlisted in Toronto shortly after the outbreak of War and served as a Private with the Royal Canadian Regiment.

He trained at Folkestone, Kent.

He accidentally drowned in France [27th July 1917] (aged 22).

The Halifax Courier [11th August 1917] reported his death with a photograph.

He was buried at Lapugnoy Military Cemetery, France [Grave Ref V A 10]
