He painted portraits of himself, James Lister & Anne Lister which hangs in Shibden Hall.

Joshua travelled with a Halifax architect friend to France &
Italy [leaving England on 8th August 1840].
They were in Geneva [September 1840], Milan [October 1840] and Rome
[by January 1841].
He wrote letters home to his father, and with his agreement & that of
his father, Henry Martin took extracts from Joshua's
letters & published them in the Halifax Express.
By March 1841, Martin had ceased being the proprietor & editor
of the Halifax Express, and some time later, he decided to
publish the extracts himself – these are currently held by the
Bodleian Library, Oxford.
After his father's death [1867], Joshua dedicated a fine
stained glass window in his memory at Salem Chapel
along with the Horner Charity bequest for
