He was a pork butcher [1881] / an eating house assistant (with his father) [1891] / a tripe dresser at Sowerby Bridge [1901, 1904].
On 19th January 1919, Police Sergeant Bell saw a man carrying cow heel from Hollows's shop in Sowerby Bridge. In his defence, Hollows said that the man had ordered the food at 7:00 pm but was only just fetching it. He was fined 5/- for selling food after the hour stipulated in the Early Closing Order.

He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial, France [Grave Ref 5D & 12B], and on the Memorial at Saint George's Church, Sowerby.
