Served in Egypt before being sent to Gallipoli where he was wounded
in the head on the 22nd June 1915.
After this his whereabouts become a mystery
 
 The following week's Edition [11th August 1916] reported his death with a photograph
 
 He was buried at Lancashire Landing Cemetery, Turkey [Grave Ref C 63].
 He is remembered in the Todmorden Garden of Remembrance

aboard the aircraft carrier HMS Glorious.
 
He died 8th June 1940 (aged 20) 
when his ship was hit by the German battleship Scharnhorst,
and sank in the Norwegian Sea with the loss of 1,207 of her crew of
1,247.
