On 4th October 1815, he married Mary Lapage at St Peter's Church, Leeds.

Savile Hall [in 1841] which he leased from Charles Harrison Batley for a term of 14 years.
In 1835, Batley's widow inherited the estate and sold the Hall
to Norris for £1,928.
Norris extended the Hall in the 1830s.
In 1835, he sued the inhabitants of Agbrigg and Morley, for the
destruction of windows, furniture and pictures at his home, Savile Hall, during the window-breaking riots on 6th January 1835.
The Jury awarded him damages of £799, against the
£1093 19/9½d which Norris had claimed.
James died in Halifax [9th September 1842].
Probate records show that he left an estate valued at £14,000.
After his death, his widow Mary lived at Savile Hall
for a short time.
In 1851, she was living at West House, Halifax.
She died 14th June 1872 (aged 84)
and was buried at Hollington Church, near St Leonards-on-Sea.
