at a late hour when, between Ambler Thorn and Raggalds Inn, he was attacked by two men who made off with his pocket-book
containing twelve £5 notes and two bills, one of £50 and

He had in his pocket a purse containing 59 sovereigns which was
overlooked.
He accused John Sutcliff, a Northowram butcher, with whom he
had earlier been drinking at the Coach & Horses at Haley Hill, of
being one of his assailants.
Sutcliff was brought before a magistrate but produced alibi
evidence and was discharged.
