Slead Hall, Brighouse



Halifax Road, Slead Syke.

A house is recorded on the site in 1316.

The property was owned by Robert Eland. He sold it to James and Richard Waterhouse.

In 1571, James and Richard Waterhouse sold the house – and a close called Slade – to John Beaumont, for £60.

The present building is dated 1636.

Around 1910, the Hall was divided into 2 separate dwellings, and has since been occupied by Misses Byrne [1911-1921], the Blackburn family [1952], and the Miller family [1952].

Oak panelling and some stained glass in the house was brought here from New Hall, Elland.

During World War II, Italian prisoners-of-war were held here.

During renovation in the 1960s/1970s, a mummified cat was found in the walls of the house.

The hall now comprises two private dwellings
