In 1895, she married Edgar Harwood.

She died on 22nd May 1909 after falling 108 ft into the ravine when a wooden platform on Blake Dean bridge collapsed. Mrs & Mrs Harwood had been walking with her nephew George Arthur Smith, and their lodger Miss Mary Ann Edith Milnes, when Mrs Harwood and her nephew stepped on to a small wooden platform to allow the workers' train to pass. Her husband had been walking ahead. George Arthur Smith, survived by hanging on to the railings.

Later that year, Edgar married Miss Mary Ann Edith Milnes

Born in Stainland.

He followed his father into the hairdressing business for about 10 years before taking up photography.

Elland portrait painter, photographic artist and photographer who took many pictures of the town at the end of the 19th century.

He had studios at Southgate and in a wooden hut at the junction of Coronation Street and Victoria Road – his Victoria Studio.

He travelled the district, giving lantern slide lectures.

He did picture-framing and dealt in photographic apparatus and materials.

He was also a well-known Congregational Church official / superintendent at the Sunday school at Elland Congregational Church  (for 54 years) / awarded the Sunday School Union Diploma for 50 years service [1932] / known as Albert the Peacemaker for his work in the Church / one of the inaugurators of the Elland Rifle Club / a member of Elland Cyclists' Club / a member of Elland Cricket Club / a member of Greetland Vocal Union.

In [Q2] 1897, he married Emily Ann Whiteley [1867-19??] in Halifax.

He was educated at Siddal Council School / a member of St Mark's Sunday School / an employee of W. M. Smeaton's Limited.

When he was 15, he achieved his boyhood ambition and joined the Royal Navy [March 1914].

During World War I, he served as a Boy Telegraphist / Wireless Operator on HMS Impregnable and HMS Lion. After HMS Lion was struck, he transferred to the battle-cruiser HMS Queen Mary.

He was lost [31st May 1916] (aged 17)  aboard HMS Queen Mary which blew up and sank at the Battle of Jutland with the loss of 1,266 of her crew of 1,284.

He is remembered on the Plymouth Naval Memorial [Grave Ref 14], and in the Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance

The Halifax Courier [6th November 1915] reported his death with a photograph.

He was buried at Hill 10 Cemetery, Turkey.

He is remembered at Stoney Royd Cemetery and in the Halifax Town Hall Books of Remembrance

Sally Townsend, single woman, which said child hath been and continues to be, Chargeable to the township of Heptonstall, whereas the churchwardens and overseers have complained.

Upon examination of the causes, etc.,etc., we do hereby declare and adjudge that the said child was born upon the body of Sally Townsend and is still chargeable to the township of Heptonstall and further that Henry Cunliffe of the township of Stansfield, a labourer, is the putative father of the said male child and that the said Henry Cunliffe shall for the months lying in of the said Sally Townsend and the maintenance of the said child, cause or cause to be paid the sum of two pounds eighteen shillings weekly, each and every week to the township of Heptonstall.

In 1830, Thomas Greenwood, a farm-worker, discovered Townsend's mummified body wrapped in a sack and buried in the peat on
Shackleton Moor, above Pecket Well.

The body was displayed at the Robin Hood, Pecket Well, in the hope that someone might identify it.

During its time in the pub, souvenir hunters stole teeth and other parts of the corpse.

Although he had been missing for 28 years, Townsend's mother and sister identified him, recognising his club foot, and the fact that he had a lost a knee-cap [which they still had on the mantelpiece at home!] as a result of an accident.

Some time later, a death bed confession described how Townsend had been murdered during a quarrel
