The Leeds Intelligencer [Tuesday 1st November 1774] reported that
RAN AWAY about three weeks ago, Mark Whitaker, an Apprentice
to Mr John Sutcliffe of Luddenden Foot, near Halifax, aged
about Twenty.
Of a light complexion, had on when he went away, a Blue coat, a
crimson Waiſtcoat, Leather Breeches, a round Hat bound with
velvet.
He likewiſe took with him a light mottled Coat and
Waiſcoat, and a pair of Fustian Breeches.
Whoever harbours this apprentice, after the Advertisement will be
prosecuted according to law
After leaving Whitaker's, he went on to run Neaverson's
glass and china shop.
He retired in 1987
