Elland Particular Baptist Church

Underneath This Stone are deposited the remains of John Ashworth the elder, to whose memory the inscription on the Marble Tablet in the adjoining chapel is dedicated He died the 19th Day of January in the year of our Lord 1800     ALSO the remains of Susannah Ashworth his wife, who lived to her 80th year and was not only eminently distinguished by great natural simplicity and ingenuousness of character, but by all those domestic virtues and qualities which form the chief ornament of a wife a mother and an affectionate relative. She died the 8th Day of June in the year of our Lord 1813     ALSO close to this Stone but nearer to the chapel, the remains of Susanna Ashworth the younger, whose death at the early age of nineteen years deprived her friends and relations of all that is lovely, amiable and endearing in youth and furnished another sad proof of the uncertainty of every promised comfort here below. She died the 18th Day of February in the year of our Lord 1793

HERE are deposited the Remains of John Ashworth, Born May 25th 1792 Died June 17th 1792 Aged 3 Weeks     ALSO of Susanna Elizabeth Ashworth Born December 22nd 1797, Died August 27th 1798 Age 8 Months The Infant Children of John and Jane Ashworth of Elland

Here lie the mortal remains of Susanna Ashworth eldest child of Philip Howard Ashworth Esq She was born at Elland Bank on the 23rd of November 1804 She died there on the 4th of May 1828,     I look for the resurrection of the Dead and the Life of the World to come

Here lie the mortal remains of Philip Howard Ashworth Esq of Elland Bank. He was was born at Sunney Bank in Batley on the 14th of September 1769, He died at Elland Bank on the 3rd of December 1834     With the Lord is plenteous Redemption

THE REMAINS of JOHN ASHWORTH the younger of Elland are deposited here He died July 12th 1800 In the 44th Year of his Age
