Grave of John Bancroft

All Souls' Church, Halifax

In memory of JOHN BANCROFT Esq. who died May 24th 1865, aged 69 years.     He lived many years on Old Lane as confidential clerk with Mr James Akroyd, and afterwards acted in the same capacity for the firm of James Akroyd and Son.     He was respected by all who knew him and beloved by his friends.     This monument is a tribute of gratitude and personal esteem from Edward Akroyd Esq.     Also of Elizabeth Brown, (Aunt of John) who died Feb. 18th 1866, aged 87 years.     Here also lie the remains of Grace Bancroft (sister of John), who died Feb. 14th 1890, aged 86 years.
