Conventions used on the Website

The following notes may help you to interpret the data in the entries on the Website

• I use the notation

  [b 1913]

  to indicate the year in which the person was born.

  This date may be

  • the year in which the birth was registered
  • calculated from ages in the census, or other source

  Only when it is shown as

  [b 11th February 1913]

  does it represent the true date of birth

  The same convention is used to indicate the year in which the person died.

• These can be combined to indicate the birth and death of an individual

  [1913-1980]

• I use the notation

  [Q3 1913]

  to indicate the quarter of the year in which an event occurred:

  • Q1 = January / February / March
  • Q2 = April / May / June
  • Q3 = July / August / September
  • Q4 = October / November / December
