Ambler Jagger, the son of Henry Jagger, was born in Northowram.
He was a power loom weaver [1851]; with the West Riding Police [when quite young]; a police sergeant in Halifax [1871]; with the Halifax Police [1859-1873].
The Minutes of the Halifax Watch Committee record his career with Halifax Police:
He was manager of one of the largest lodging houses in Halifax [1873]; landlord of the Brighton Inn, Halifax [1881]; a fish salesman [1891]; a fish merchant [1901].
In the 1880s, he and his son, John Henry, established A. Jagger & Sons.
In 1859, he married Hannah Pickard [1839-1911], born in Barnsley/Falkirk, Yorkshire, at Rawmarsh.

Living with them in 1881 was niece Annie Pickard [aged 14], born in Barnsley, and 13 boarders.
Living with them in 1891 was grandson Ambler Jagger [aged 10].
Living with them in 1901 were grandson Ambler Jagger, visitors, daughter Mary Vere, grandson Walter Vere [aged 17] and granddaughter Hannah J Vere [aged 7].
Ambler died at Little London, Northowram [29th November 1902].
He was buried at Heywood's Chapel.
An obituary records that
In 1873, when he resigned as Police Sergeant, he became manager of one of the largest lodging houses in Halifax, when militia men were billeted there. His kindness to the very poor and especially the children will be long remembered
Probate records show that he left an estate valued at £130
