His marriage to Ellen, the daughter of Arthur Pilkington, was an arranged marriage, as can be seen from this document:
23 Henry VIII [1531-1532] Receipt by Thomas Sayvile of Clyfton' gentleman for the payment by Arthur Pyldyngton' esq of 20 marks in part payment of a smaller sum for custody and marriage of Thomas Sayvile son of Leonard Sayvile deceased.[Nott Arch DD/SR/28/3/18]
Thomas's father died when he was young, as can been seen from the following document, though this was written a couple of years before Leonard's death:
