The Leeds Intelligencer [Monday 27th March 1797] published the following notices
Brearley Mill
To be Sold by Private ContractThe REMAINDER of a Term of Years under a Leaſe, Twenty-five years of which are now unexpired called Brearley Mill ſituate in Brearley, Midgley now used for Scribbling and Carding Wool with all the Stocks, Tackle, Engines and Implements thereto. Further particulars from Mr Thomas Pickles at Brearley Mill aforesaid, Alexander Turner of Leeds, Mr Edmondson of Mitholme Royd near Halifax or Mr Swainſon, Attorney-at-law.
Brearley Mill.An advertisement having appeared in this Paper offering to Sale for a term of years, a Leaſe of that part of Brearley Mill in Midgley occupied by Thomas Pickles. This notice is given That no Sale of ſuch a Leaſe can legally be made, and that Thomas Pickles, Mr Turner, Mr Edmondson and Mr Swainſon, referred to in ſuch advertisement have no authority to offer ſuch Leaſe for Sale.

Brearley Mill.An Advertisement appeared in this Paper (by Order of Mr Richard Patchett) aſſerting that legal no Sale of Leaſe of the above mill can be made, and that Persons referred to have no Authority to offer the ſame for Sale – the Gentlemen alluded to, think it may not be improper to ſay, that (notwithstanding the ſaid advertisement) they are fully able to ſatisfy thoſe who are diſposed to apply, that a legal Aſſignment of the Leaſe can be made; and that they are not only authoriſed to offer the ſame for Sale but to treat for the Sale thereof – and further that unacceptionable Security will be given (if any is required) to guarantee and confirm ſuch a Sale.
