To the Chancellor of Henry, Duke of Lancaster.
Informing him that Ralph de Stansfeld, felmonger, the bearer of these letters, was a citizen of London and should enjoy the franchise of the said City throughout the King's domain, and desiring him to command the bailiffs and officers of the said Henry, Duke of Lancaster, to allow the said Ralph to go to and fro with his merchandise quit of all manner of custom in his seignory (etc).

1355-6. Calendar of letters from the Mayor and Corporation of the City of London. Temp Simon Frauncheys, Mayor. To the Mayor, Bailiffs and Good Folk of the City of Develyyn (Dublin) in Ireland. Had heard from Ralph de Stansfeld, citizen of London, of their intention to seize his merchandise in their country in retaliation for tonnage ducs which were paid by their merchants in London. They are to know that by writ of the King Edward III, (etc) the merchants of their city had been allowed to pass and repass (etc) No. 166
1356. Calendar of Patent Rolls: Nov 26, Westminster. Licence for two years for William son of Adam de Lyverpull and Ralph de Stansfeld to ship in the port of Lyverpull in the duchy of Lancaster 300 quarters of corn and take the same to the parts of Fourneux in the same duchy, Coupeland and elsewhere in England, to make their profit thereof, on their finding security before the mayor and bailiffs of the town that they will take the corn to on other parts. Calendar of Patent Rolls: Nov. 26, Westminster.Licence for two years for Ralph de Stansfeld to buy in Ireland 600 quarters of corn and 20 tuns of white fish, salted and bring the same to England to make his profit of the same there; on condition that he find security before the justiciary or the chancellor of that land to bring the same to England. Rotulorum Patentium et Clausorum Cancellariae Hiberniae: The King to the mayor and bailiffs of the city of Dublin, stating that he had granted to Ralph de Stansfeld that he may bring 20 casks of wine to England, as well for the use of Henry, Duke of Lancaster, as for his own convenience.
