The preceding release referred to in the above quitclaim being:


Quitclaim by Matthew and Helen his wife [to the canons of Cockersand] of their right in the mill of Hutton, and in the water and mill-dams belonging to Howick with common rights easements and liberties as described in the donor's charters saving to the lords of Howick the yearly service of four shillings at the feast of St Martin and to the grantor and his heirs two white gloves at Preston Fair for all service [S.D 1212-1220]
