Floods of December 2015

In December 2015 – notably around Boxing Day – a series of heavy rains caused much flooding and subsequent damage in the North-West of England – mainly Cumbria, Lancashire, West Yorkshire & York.

Local impact included

• The whole of the Calder Valley from Todmorden to Brighouse suffered severe flooding
• Copley River Bridge collapsed – see Photo of the damaged bridge
• Elland Bridge was damaged
• Brighouse Bridge on Huddersfield Road already had cracks which were aggravated by the volume of water in the Calder
• The path and walls of Crowther Bridge at Cromwell Bottom collapsed
