[1803-1885] Polish poet.

In November 1835, he delivered lectures at the Old Assembly Rooms, Halifax.

The Halifax Guardian [14th November 1835] reported


On Thursday last, Mr Zaba delivered his first lecture on the history and literature of Poland at the Old Assembly Rooms in this town. His passionate and eloquent appeals to the sympathy of the audience produced a powerful response on the part of his audience which was very respectable.

On Friday evening, Mr Zaba delivered his second lecture. He concluded a brilliant and eloquent oration, producing a corresponding effect upon his audience by a poetical apostrophe of great power and energy.

Apparently, when he lectured in Bradford he had poor audiences

Area of alleys, lodging houses, and shops which lay behind the Prince Albert, Brighouse between Park Street and Commercial Street, in the centre of Brighouse.

The name was changed in 1868.

It has been said that the area was so rough, that the policemen used to walk round the area in fours.

The area was cleared in the 1930s to make way for the parade of shops which included Burton's.

He is recorded in the Heptonstall Church Registers.

The Sutcliffe family of Heptonstall is said to be descended from him.

He married Unknown.

Children:

  1. Gamaliel / Jan / Jans
  2. Peter

Both sons erected fulling mills.

In 1843, Thomas Suttcliffe mentioned Jans and Gamel de Zoetcliffe, implying that there were family connections with Bolton, Colne, Heptonstall, and Todmorden.

A newspaper article of 1882, states that Jans and Peter de Zoetcliffe erected fulling mills in Colne and Rastrick.

The 1912 History of Todmorden refers to Gamel Sutcliffe in respect of the Colne fulling mill

She married William Greame.

After William's death, she and her daughter went to live in Wakefield.

She leased Heath Hall, Halifax to Jeremiah Aked and Michael Inman
